MANILA, Philippines — The Senate is set to resume Tuesday its investigation into the bloody Mamasapano encounter last January 25 still uncertain whether survivors could be presented in a public hearing.

“We will see how can we get the testimonies of the survivors without compromising their safety,” Senator Grace Poe who is taking the lead in the investigation as head of the Senate committee on public order said in a text message before the scheduled resumption of the hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

At least two members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force – Police Superintendent Raymond Train and Police Officer 2 Christopher Lalan, who survived the Mamasapano clash, were invited as resource persons during Monday’s hearing at the Senate.

Poe said the two were at the Senate but they did not face the hearing supposedly because of their heath conditions.

The lady senator said that at the resumption of the hearing, they would also try to focus on the alleged involvement of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on the incident.

“We will also hopefully get to focus also on the MILF, their involvement, and what they are willing to do to prove their sincerity in the peace process,” Poe added.
