MANILA, Philippines–An 18-year-old student, whom the police believed to be having troubles in school, jumped to his death from a carpark building in Makati City on Friday morning.
Members of the Makati City Rescue 168 were still able to bring the victim, a student of a school in Taguig City, to the Makati Medical Center where he was treated for his leg, head and body injuries after he plunged from the sixth floor of the Dela Rosa Carpark in Legazpi Village, Brgy. San Antonio at around 6:30 a.m.
The student, however, was pronounced dead about four hours after he was admitted in the medical facility because of the severity of his head injuries.
Initial report from the Makati City Police revealed that the student had been missing for days from their residence and that his parents found out about what happened to their son through the police who contacted them based from his identification cards.
Witnesses from the scene told investigators that a man suddenly leaped from the topmost floor of the parking building and landed along Dela Rosa corner Palanca Street. This prompted security officials of the building to immediately call Rescue 168 for emergency help. The responding emergency team said that the student was breathing when they reached the location of the incident.
Makati City Police chief Ernesto Barlam told the Inquirer that the fatality is a very intelligent student based from the accounts of his parents and the village officials in their barangay (village).
Case investigator SPO1 Nilo Sadsad said that they learned from the parents and relatives of the student that he had a recent problem in completing a school requirement which could have been the reason why he ended his life but noted that they are still verifying the claim.
Sadsad also noted that the family refused to reveal other details to the police since they said that they are “still in a state of shock” with their son’s death.
