MANILA, Philippines—A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck off Surigao del Sur at 4:03 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
There was no immediate report of damage or injury from the quake that centered 36 kilometers northeast of Cortes town at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers.
It was felt at Intensity III in Carrascal, Intensity II in Surigao City, Intensity I in Cabalian, Southern Leyte and Tacloban City.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
