Today, Feb. 6, is the 51st death anniversary of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, president of the first Philippine republic. Born on March 22, 1869, Aguinaldo was a paramount figure in the 1896 Revolution. His first two major acts as president were the proclamation of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898, and the setup of local political units. He died in 1964 at age 94.
