Inquirer reporter loses gadgets to QC car thieves

MANILA, Philippines—A veteran Inquirer reporter lost more than P40,000 worth of gadgets to thieves who broke the window of his pickup while it was parked on Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, on Wednesday night.

Gil Cabacungan told the police that he lost a laptop and two Wi-Fi sticks placed inside a bag tucked under the backseat.

According to Cabacungan, he parked the pickup in front of a flower shop around 8 p.m. near Mario’s Kitchen restaurant on Katipunan Avenue, where he was to attend a birthday party.

But when he returned to his vehicle around 11:30 p.m., he found that someone had broken the left rear window and taken the bag.

Cabacungan said the windows of his pickup were tinted. He also recalled parking it between two delivery trucks, hence it was not immediately visible to passersby.

He also noted there were no security guards posted in the area at that time.

A waiter at the restaurant told Cabacungan that in the past month, three other incidents of car windows being smashed by thieves were reported in the same parking area.

Supt. Danilo Pecaña, commander of the Quezon City Police District’s Project 4 station, said investigators would examine footage from the security cameras of nearby establishments to help them identify the culprits.
