MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Thursday that it has postponed the Sangguniang Kabataan elections (SK) to April 25.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez in a press briefing said Comelec Resolution No. 9930 postponed the SK elections pending the enactment of the law postponing the elections to October 2016.
Jimenez, however, clarified that the postponement “was a temporary measure to give the poll body enough time to prepare, in case the youth polls will really push through this year.”
The resolution sets the SK election period from March 26 to May 10 while the filing of certificates of candidacy is scheduled on April 11, 13 and 14 and the campaign period is from April 15 to 23.
On January, the Congress approved the postponement of the SK elections to October 2016.
