Abu Sayyaf sub-unit leader killed in clash with soldiers in Sulu — Army

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf was killed in a clash with government troops in Patikul, Sulu, on Thursday morning.

Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, identified the slain bandit as a certain Murasil, an alleged sub-leader of Abu Sayyaf group led by Hatib Hajan.

Muyuela said the clash happened in Sitio Kan Udang in Barangay (village) Taglibi in Patikul at 9:10 a.m.

Col. Allan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu, said sporadic fighting has been going on as of this writing.

Arrojado said no government soldier was hurt.
