MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered a 50-centavo reduction in the minimum jeepney fare in Region 4 bringing it down to P8.
“Inorder naming na magbaba ng 50 centavos sa unang apat na kilometro o sa minimum fare, kaya mula P8.50 ay P8 piso na ang pamasahe,” LTFRB chair Winston Ginez told Radyo Inquirer 990AM Thursday morning, referring to jeepney fares in the region. (We have ordered a 50-centavo reduction for the first four kilometers or minimum fare, so from P8.50 the fare is now P8.)
Region 4 is made up of Calabarzon (Region 4-A) and Mimaropa (Region 4-B). Calabarzon groups Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon, while Mimaropa consists of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
This brings to eight the regions ordered to make fare reductions. These are the National Capital Region, where the minimum was lowered to P7.50; and Regions 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10, which have enforced different amounts of reductions.
Ginez said the fare reductions were by regions because the LTFRB had ordered its regional offices to conduct separate public hearings on the issue.
