QC offers property tax amnesty

/ 12:26 AM February 05, 2015

MANILA, Philippines—Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has declared a tax amnesty in the form of relief from payments of unpaid real property taxes (RPTs) of five years or more.

Ordinance No. 2363 states that taxpayers with RPT delinquencies of more than five years may now fully settle them by paying their dues from 2010 to 2014, including all penalties, surcharges and interest. Afterward, they no longer need to settle their overdue RPTs before 2010.

“This tax privilege will be offered only for a six-month period [up] to June 30. After that, we have no recourse but [to] auction off the properties of [delinquent taxpayers],” he said.
