A man who became depressed after he lost his wife and two kids to Super Typhoon “Yolanda” was arrested in San Juan City on Saturday after he broke a picture of the Virgin Mary made of ceramic tiles belonging to Mayor Guia Gomez.
City social welfare officer Rocel Camagos told the Inquirer that Dante Vidal could not say why he broke the picture which had been hanging on the fence of Gomez’s house on Ibuna Street, Barangay Little Baguio, for the past 40 years.
Gomez, however, declined to file a case of malicious mischief against the 33-year-old Vidal who was returned by San Juan welfare officers to his uncle in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City, yesterday afternoon. He was also endorsed to the Marikina social welfare office for counseling.

Antazo, Vidal was arrested around 11 p.m. on Saturday by Gomez’s security guards after he broke the picture. In an interview conducted by San Juan social welfare officers, Vidal said that he was looking for someone in the city although he did not identify the person.
A staffer of the National Center for Mental Health who evaluated Vidal upon the request of the San Juan welfare office found him to be “clinically depressed.”
