200 houses lost in Pasay fire

MANILA, Philippines–About 200 houses were lost in a fire that razed a residential area on Andrews Avenue corner Tramo on Sunday in Barangay (village) 184, Maricaban in Pasay City.

FO1 Federico Enero said that the blaze, which began around 11 a.m. and reached the fourth alarm, spread easily from house to house as these were made of light materials.

At that time, it was also windy, he added. As the fire spread, residents were seen destroying the walls of their houses to take out their appliances and other valuables.

Enero said there were no reported deaths or injuries until the time the blaze was put out at 3:36 p.m. He told the Inquirer that arson investigators were still determining the cause as well as the damage to property at press time.

The more than 300 families who were affected by the fire, on the other hand, sought shelter in barangay halls and basketball courts near the area.–Maricar B. Brizuela
