MANILA, Philippines—The Office of the Ombudsman has recommended the filing of graft and malversation charges against officials of two Mindanao universities for misusing school funds.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered the filing of charges against Rex Dapitan, vice president for finance of Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), for using P50,625 of school funds to attend a wedding in the guise of a “Lakbay Aral” program.
The money was used to cover Dapitan’s and other school officials’ expenses when they attended the wedding of a co-employee in October 2010, the Ombudsman said.
In another case, the officials and faculty members of Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College (TTRAC) will face graft and malversation charges after they converted school checks amounting to P8.6 million for personal use.
President Moh. Asady Mandangan Hussin, Assistant Professor IV Berma Salih Omarali, Instructor I Mernalyn Abbas Isa and Associate Professor III Sahajim Hamis Hassan of TTRAC failed to present pertinent documents in 21 check conversions they executed.
No liquidation documents were presented for office and equipment allegedly purchased, the Ombudsman said.
