MANILA, Philippines–United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) interim president Toby Tiangco on Tuesday urged Senator Alan Peter Cayetano to inhibit from the Senate talks on the contempt citation of Makati Mayor Junjun Binay.
In a statement, the Navotas representative said Cayetano has shown his bias against the son of Vice President Jejomar Binay in the Senate probe on alleged corruption in Makati City.
“Cayetano’s independence is clearly in question here. If he still has some delicadeza left in his blood, prudence dictates that he should inhibit from the deliberations on the rules covering the blue ribbon committee simply because he is one of the attack dogs and has prejudged the issues,” Tiangco said.
Mayor Binay and six other officials face contempt for failing to attend the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee probe on the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall 2 parking building.
The arrest of Binay was held in abeyance on Monday due to some questions from senators. Mayor Binay, meanwhile, said he is ready to face arrest.
