82-year-old man dies after getting hit by PNR train
MANILA, Philippines–An 82-year-old man died when he was sideswiped by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train before it reached the Sta. Mesa station in Manila Tuesday morning.
In a report by Radyo Inquirer 990 AM, the still unidentified man, who was about to cross the opposite lane, was killed instantly after he got sideswiped by a southbound train around 9 a.m.
The radio report said that the man, who was walking with his head down might have failed to see the approaching train. It added that because of his old age, the senior citizen could also be suffering from hearing problems.
PNR spokesperson Paul de Quiroz, in a text message to INQUIRER.net, said the man was not on the right crossing area.
“The man was not supposed to be walking along or very near the tracks. We have crossings and intersections for vehicle and pedestrian traffic,” de Quiroz said.
