MANILA, Philippines–A fire that reached the fifth alarm struck a residential area in Las Piñas City on Monday.
At press time, authorities were still trying to determine how many houses were destroyed in the blaze that broke out shortly past 1 p.m. on Lotus Street corner Carnation Street in T.S. Cruz Subdivision.
SFO2 Melencio Pangan, who was among those who went to the scene after the blaze was reported to the central fire station, said that based on his observation, at least 10 houses were destroyed in the incident. All were made of light materials.
The fire was placed under control at 2:18 p.m. with no casualties reported. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” Pangan said, adding that the cost of damage to property had yet to be determined.–Kristine Felisse Mangunay
