BACOLOD CITY – A magnitude 5.1 quake shook Negros Occidental 3:09 p.m. Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
The quake was located 09.83°north, 122.26°east – 018 km north 66° west of Sipalay and was tectonic in origin.
No damage was reported but aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.
It was felt at Intensity V in Hinoba-an and Sipalay; Intensity IV in Iloilo City and in Tayasan, Sta. Catalina, Bayawan City and Siaton in Negros Oriental; Intensity III in Tobias Fornier, Antique and Ayungon, Negros Oriental; and Intensity II in Dipolog City; Calamba, Misamis Occidental; Dumaguete City; Jordan, Guimaras; Cebu City.
A magnitude 3.4 quake also hit Sipalay City 5:10 a.m. Sunday, Phivolcs said.
The tremor was located 09.80°north, 122.49°east – 009 km north 66° easy of Sipalay ad was also tectonic in origin.
It was felts at intensity IV in Hinoba-an, Intensity III in Sipalay in Negros Occidental, and Intensity II in Basay, Sibulan and Tayasan, Negros Oriental, Phivolcs said.*
