MANILA, Philippines – Despite her stage 4 lung cancer, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago assured the public on Monday that she has been doing very well, joking that she has not yet mistaken other people for her husband.

“Yun lang naman pala, bumaba pa ang boses mo…Akala ko you’re going to ask about my sex life,” Santiago said when a reporter at a press conference asked about her health condition.

“I’m doing very well under my present medication but you can notice for example that I’m out of breath when I’m speaking…but otherwise, I can read my books very well, I still retain my intellectual activities, I do not mistake other people for my husband for example. I’m sure who he is,” she said.

Santiago reiterated her intention to run for president as soon as she gets well.

“I expect to be able to resume my duties and to run for president if I get well simply because it’s boring, boring, boring,” she said.

“The landscape is boring. Who are you going to choose for president, aber?” the senator asked.

So far, only Vice President Jejomar Binay has publicly declared his presidential bid in 2016.
