MANILA, Philippines — A 5.5 magnitude quake struck Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao early Wednesday and aftershocks were expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake was recorded in the sea some 70 kilometers southwest of Palimbang at 4:33 a.m., Phivolcs said.
The tectonic quake had a dept of 620 kilometers.
No immediate damage was reported from the tremor.
The earthquake followed two earlier ones on Tuesday in the seas off Tawi-Tawi and Davao Oriental. Both measured within the magnitude 5 range.
