DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – Typhoon “Pedring” claimed its first fatality in Pangasinan Tuesday night when a woman was crushed and killed by a falling mango tree in the town of Sual.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., in a local radio interview on Wednesday, said Maricel Bustamante, 32, and her family were preparing to go to bed at about 7 p.m. when the mango tree fell on their shanty in Barangay Sioasio East in Sual.

Police Officer 2 Gerald Mamanta, chief investigator of the Sual police, said Bustamante died instantly. He said Bustamante’s husband and two children, aged 1 and 2, were unhurt.
