MANILA, Philippines—“How much are you willing to pay extra to get better MRT/LRT services?”
Six out of 10 INQUIRER.net readers who answered the online poll chose “zero.”
Of 33,264 respondents, 58 percent said they are not willing to shell out extra money in order to experience better services in riding the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3.
Those who were willing to pay an additional P16 to P20 numbered 10,349 or 31.11 percent of respondents.
Other voters are divided thus: 1,252 (3.76 percent) for an additional P1 to P5; 1,189 (3.57 percent) for P6 to P10; and 1,156 (3.48 percent) for P11 to P15.
The poll result was released weeks after the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) implemented a fare hike in the three train systems on January 4.
The Aquino administration maintained that the fare increase in the LRT and MRT is “long overdue” and “necessary.”
