NAGA CITY-–All public storm signals have been lifted Monday but tropical storm ”Amang” left in its wake two persons dead when it lashed across Bicol region and caused landslides and rivers to overflow on Sunday, an Army official said.
Captain Mardjorie Panesa, public information officer of Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division based in Pili, Camarines Sur, said Monday that rice farmer Domingo Tablate, 69, drowned around 3 a.m. in his ricefield in Virac, Catanduanes that was flooded when a nearby river overflowed.
She said Tablate of Barangay Antipolo Norte, Virac, was initially reported missing on Sunday after trying to secure his cow against the winds and rain. His body was recovered around 7 a.m. Sunday by Red Cross personnel and barangay (village) officials.
In Camarines Norte, Arlene Aguilar, 49, was inside her sari-sari (retail) store when she was crushed by big rock boulders that tumbled from an elevated area off the roadside in Purok 1, Sitio Matanlang, Barangay Tawig, Paracale at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Her daughter Rona, 17, survived with minor injuries on the right arm, thigh and leg after being rescued from the rubble, said Senior Police Officer 1 Michael Surla, investigator at Paracale Municipal Police Office.
