MANILA, Philippines—The Cubao station commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), who was relieved of his post over a jailbreak on New Year’s Eve, has filed a criminal complaint against his own subordinates for the mass escape.
Supt. Wilson de los Santos sued the four station personnel who were on duty when 16 inmates managed to sneak out through a hole on their cell’s ceiling after sawing off the reinforcing steel bars in the wee hours of Dec. 31.
De los Santos pinned the blame on Insp. John Wayne Versoza, SPO3 Emilio Javier, PO3 Jade Gavina and PO3 Espartacus Pareja, who were charged by their former commander with criminal negligence in the city prosecutor’s office on Monday.
On the orders of QCPD Director Senior Supt. Joel Pagdilao, De los Santos was relieved of his post and transferred to the district’s Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit. Fourteen of the 16 escapees have since surrendered or were recaptured.
