Did you know: Carlos Quirino

Today, Jan. 14, is the 105th birth anniversary of National Artist Carlos Quirino. Born in 1910, Quirino wrote one of the earliest biographies of Jose Rizal, “The Great Malayan.” He was also the first Filipino correspondent for the United Press Institute. In 1997, then President Fidel Ramos added historical literature as a category in the National Artist Awards and Quirino was its first recipient.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
