Pasay City to be on ‘red alert’ ahead of papal visit
MANILA, Philippines—The Pasay City government has announced it would place the city on “red alert” starting Wednesday, a day before the scheduled arrival of Pope Francis in the country.
In a recent statement, Mayor Antonino Calixto said authorities were now “finalizing (their) preparation on the local level in support of the country’s mission …”
Pasay City administrator and Task Force Viva Il Papa overall coordinator Dennis Acorda said that “intensified coordination” was “being conducted by all members of the task force and their respective personnel with national government agencies.”
He said the Pasay City Rescue would deploy two rescue teams and an ambulance at the Domestic Road/MIA Road intersection; and two ambulances at the Andrews Avenue/Tramo intersection.
He said one ambulance will be “strategically” placed at the Villamor Airbase where the Pope’s plane is expected to land.
Each team, he said, will be “on full two shifting 24-hour alert.”
