Palace announces resumption of classes in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines—Classes resume on Wednesday, Malacañang has announced.

“Based on the Department of Science and Technology’s latest output models, rain tomorrow in the National Capital Region will be mostly light to occasionally moderate,” Undersecretary Abigail Valte said in a text message to reporters.

“Following the recommendation of Pagasa there will be a resumption of classes in schools and work in government offices, except in affected areas where a suspension of classes and/or work has already been declared by the local government and/or the Department of Education,” the deputy presidential spokesperson added.

Valte said the discretion in suspending classes where areas are still flooded and where there are continuing power outages is left to the government units and school officials concerned.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda earlier announced that Typhoon Pedring would not affect the scheduled arrival from Japan of President Benigno Aquino III.

Mr. Aquino is scheduled to arrive 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
