At least 84 ill Black Nazarene devotees treated–NDRRMC
MANILA, Philippines — At least 84 participants in the Feast of the Black Nazarene were given medical assistance on Friday at the Quirino Grandstand two hours before the procession started.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said as of 6a.m., the Tala Medical Team based on Quirino Grandstand provided medical assistance to 84 individuals: 66 with hypertension; four with abrasion; one with arthritis; one with systemic viral illness; one with asthma; one with musculoskeletal strain; one with ankle sprain.
One suffered from gastritis; two with toothache; three with headache; one with lacerated wound; one with punctured wound and one with infected wound.
A member of the Hijos de Nazareno was also reported to have suffered from a heart attack during the procession, which led to his death.
The Metro Manila Development Authority also reported that it has provided assistance to three devotees who lost consciousness.
The procession started past 8 a.m. after being stalled as thousands of devotees tried to get closer the image of the Black Nazarene.
