MANILA, Philippines — A suspected notorious leader of the Abu Sayyaf Group was apprehended by combined security forces in Basilan on Tuesday.
Imran Daiyong Mijal alias Boh is a suspect in numerous crimes and the subject of a warrant of arrest for frustrated murder, Lieutenant Colonel Eliglen Villaflor, commander of the Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mijal reportedly resisted the arrest and tried to use his firearm but the government troops fired back. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound on his right arm.
Villaflor said first aid was given to the suspect.
Also confiscated from the suspect were an M-16 rifle with one magazine and 48 rounds of ammunition, one rifle grenade, a cal. 45 pistol with four magazines and 23 rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested in Barangay Marang-marang in Sumisip town at about 5:20 p.m. The 4th SF Battalion, Army’s 64th Infantry Battalion and Sumisip police carried out the operation.
The suspect is also known to have participated in other activities such as bombing, liquidation, kidnapping, ambush and extortion, Villaflor said.
