Today, Jan. 7, is the 70th birth anniversary of National Artist Salvador Bernal. Known as the “Father of Philippine Stage Design,” he designed more than 300 productions for drama, musicals, operas and concerts. He founded the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Production Design Center. He was conferred the title of National Artist in 2003. Bernal died on Oct. 26, 2011. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
