P33M lotto winner ‘errand girl’ no more

A 24-year-old unemployed woman from Quezon City won the nearly P33-million jackpot in the Dec. 23 6/42 lotto draw, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said.

The lone winner, described as an “errand girl” who eked out a living by doing various chores for her neighbors, claimed her winnings Monday after picking the lucky combination 04-09-11-24-29-37, according to PCSO acting chair and general manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas II.

Placing bets for the last five years, the eldest in the brood picked her numbers based on the birthdates and ages of siblings and cousins, said Rojas, who met the woman when she picked up her P32,685,212 at the PCSO main office in Mandaluyong City.

Unable to finish her studies, she put money in her pocket by running errands for her neighbors—from fetching their kids from school to buying them food from the market—who would pay her at least P20 per chore.

Now an instant multimillionaire, she said she would use her winnings to start a family business and fund her siblings’ education, Rojas added. Jovic Yee
