MANILA, Philippines – Generally good weather is expected to prevail over the country for the rest of the week.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasters do not see any weather disturbance that could affect the country in the next few days.

Forecaster Chris Perez said there would be light to moderate rains in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao and light rains in portions of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

With the amihan, or northeast monsoon, prevailing over Luzon, weather will remain chilly in the region particularly in the mornings.

Perez said that while the amihan would peak this month until the first weeks of February, monsoon breaks could still happen. “During monsoon breaks, temperatures are not that low,” he pointed out.

Tuesday’s temperature in Metro Manila was lowest at 21.4 degrees Celsius at around 6:10 a.m. while Baguio City was coldest at 14.6 degrees.

The National Capital Region (NCR) was cooler on Monday at 20.7 degrees at around 5:30 a.m. and chillier still on Sunday when the lowest temperature was at 19.5 degrees at around 6 a.m.

The coldest temperature recorded so far this year was in Baguio City last Saturday when the temperature dipped to 11 degrees at around 4 a.m.

In 2014, the temperature in Baguio City was lowest on January 19 at 8.1 degrees while Metro Manila was coolest on January 26 at 15.8 degrees.

Historically, the lowest temperature in the country’s summer capital was 6.3 degrees on Jan. 18, 1961, while the National Capital Region experienced its coldest morning in February 1962 at 14.6 degrees.
