Today Jan. 6, is the 88th death anniversary of journalist and patriot Martin Ocampo. Born in 1852 in Manila, Ocampo was the publisher, administrator and one of the founders of the nationalistic daily newspaper El Renacimiento. He also founded the afternoon Spanish daily La Vanguardia and the Taliba, which stood out for its militancy and contributed to the flourishing of the native language. Ocampo died in 1927.
