MANILA, Philippines—In the new year, Vice President Jejomar Binay will forge ahead in his bid to seek the presidency in 2016 amid threats of new exposés of alleged corruption against him.

Binay intends this year to continue showing the Filipino people the kind of governance and service he rendered in his more than 20 years as a public servant.

“The Vice President will present to the people the competent and compassionate governance and public service which he began in Makati City,” said Binay’s spokesman Joey Salgado on Thursday.

Salgado said Binay would be able to show his leadership.

“In the end, action speaks louder than words, especially the empty and poisoned words from ambitious young politicians with no proven track record,” Salgado said, apparently referring to the three senators conducting the hearings against Binay.

Binay has denied the allegations, which include the alleged overprice of Makati City Hall Building 2 and Makati Science High School, and ownership of a high-end sprawling Rosario, Batangas, property.
