MANILA, Philippines–Hit by a stray bullet in the head, an 11-year-old girl in Abra died just hours after the Philippines ushered in the new year.
Cordillera regional police spokesperson Supt. Cherry Fajardo told INQUIRER.net that the child, a resident of Bumagcat, Tagum, was felled by a bullet at around 12:30 a.m.
The father saw the girl fall after being shot. She died at 3 a.m. Thursday.
Fajardo said a slug from a .45 pistol was recovered from the victim’s head and that police have asked the relatives to undergo a paraffin test to rule them out as suspects.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy from Manabo, Abra was injured also from a stray bullet that hit his right arm.
Fajardo said they cannot release the names of the victims without consent from their relatives.
