THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USP-F) beat the University of San Carlos (USC), 1-0, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Football Championships at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Mandauea City last Sunday.
Joseph Rodriguez scored USPF’s lone goal at the 46th minute of the match despite the team being undermanned.
USP-F was reduced to 10 players on the field at the 23rd minute after Edmar Galacio booked his second yellow card for an automatic red card.
In the first game, defending champion University of Cebu (UC) finally barged into the win column with a 1-0 edging of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R).
UC was also reduced to 10 men on the field after Barth Diola was kicked out of the game for violent conduct at the 29th minute of the lgame.
The Jaguars had 80 percent of ball possession but could not capitalized on their chances on goal until Webmasters’ Kieth Jireh Arguelles found a hole on a breakaway goal at the 70th minute.
In the secondary division, Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) defeated USJ-R, 13-0. In the other game, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) posted a 7-0 win over USPF./CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
