Today, Dec. 30, is the 139th birth anniversary of writer and patriot Honorio Lopez. Born in Manila in 1875, he organized the first company of Tagalog zarzuelas and served as editor of the Tagalog segments of three publications: Libre, La Patria and La Consolidacion Nacional. He was a member of the municipal board of Manila from 1916 to 1920, and a technical assistant to Presidents Ramon Magsaysay and Carlos Garcia. In 1967, a Manila ordinance renamed North Bay Boulevard in Tondo to Honorio Lopez.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
