MANILA, Philippines—The families of detained senators Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. will get to spend more time with them on the days leading to the New Year as the Philippine National Police has allowed the extension of their visiting hours in jail.
Senior Superintendent Robert Po, deputy PNP spokesperson, said Monday that the request of the senators had been granted although “partially.”

“It was extended from the standard visiting hours. They were given a little leeway,” Po said in a press briefing.

“I am not sure how long the extension was granted but not the whole request was granted,” he added.

The request was recommended by Headquarters Support Service head Chief Superintendent Alberto Supapo. It was relayed to PNP officer-in-charge Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina for approval.

The senators are asking Espina to extend the regular visiting hours, which are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends‎.

‎The two senators want to extend the visiting hours from 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2015.

Since the start of Christmas week, the Custodial Center had disallowed the media from getting near its gates where Revilla and Estrada are detained.

The two senators and co-accused Juan Ponce Enrile, who is under hospital detention, are being tried for their alleged involvement in the controversial P10-billion pork barrel scam.
