Falling trees kill 3 in Bulacan, Zambales

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines—At least three people, two of them children, were killed when trees toppled by strong winds accompanying Typhoon Pedring (international codename: Nesat) fell on their houses in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, and Subic, Zambales, on Tuesday morning.

Police said two children, aged 11 and 1, died when a mango tree fell on their house in Barangay Poblacion in Sta. Maria at 11 a.m. Police had yet to identify the victims.

A report by the Philippine Information Agency in Central Luzon said a person also died while another was hurt when they were hit by a falling tree in Barangay Calapacuan in Subic early Tuesday morning. The PIA and the police had yet to identify them.

Howling winds swept through Central Luzon as Pedring moved toward La Union. The typhoon, which dumped heavy rains, entered the eastern coastline of Isabela and at noon Tuesday  was reported to be in the vicinity of Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija.
