Like all mothers, Christine Joy Dacanay was hoping that her only child, Lyndey Yciar Carretas, would grow up to be a healthy boy.
At nine months old, however, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Now aged 12, he suffered a seizure over a month ago and developed pneumonia, leading to his confinement in the intensive care unit of Manila Central University Medical Center in Caloocan City. He has been there since Dec. 1.
“Ever since he had seizure more than a month ago, he can no longer move his jaws. He cannot chew food anymore,” Dacanay said.
As Lyndey is unable to move his jaw, he can be fed only through a tube. But intravenous feeding has been unable to provide him with the nutrients he needs, resulting in severe malnutrition, low blood sugar and bacterial meningitis.
Dacanay, a single mother who lives in Balintawak, Caloocan City, said that her friends have been assisting her in buying Lyndey’s medicines.
She is appealing, however, to Inquirer readers as her son’s hospital bills at MCU are mounting up. Right now, she needs to pay the hospital P150,000.
