It’ll be a slightly wet Christmas, predicts Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines–Expect a somewhat wet Christmas, according to the weather bureau, with cloudy skies and light to moderate rains expected throughout the country.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said a low pressure area was expected to enter the country on Dec. 25, Christmas Day.

In its weekly weather outlook, Pagasa said the rain showers and thunderstorms last week would continue due to the prevailing northeast monsoon, or amihan, which brings cooler morning temperatures to the northern part of the country.

On Monday and Tuesday, Pagasa said, the country will experience light to moderate rains due to another surge of the northeast monsoon.

Light, moderate rains

It said the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Aurora and Quezon and the Cordillera and Cagayan regions will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains.

Bicol and portions of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will also be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, Pagasa added.

On Christmas eve, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring light rains to the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Ilocos regions.

Eastern Visayas and the Caraga region will be cloudy with scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Pagasa said a low pressure area could form over the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday afternoon, Christmas Eve.

The weather system might enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Christmas Day, the weather bureau said.

Pagasa warned that the seas off Northern, Central and Southern Luzon will be generally rough to very rough during the week.
