MANILA, Philippines–The Armed Forces of the Philippines will honor 28 officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees and cadet reservists for their “invaluable accomplishments” during its 79th founding anniversary Thursday.

President Aquino is the guest of honor at the celebration, which has for its theme, “Sandatahang Lakas: Ika-79 Taon ng Naglilingkod ng Tapat Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran at Kasaganaan” (The Armed Forces: Serving faithfully for 75 years towards peace, progress and prosperity).

As the commander in chief, Aquino will be honored with a testimonial parade and review showcasing the history of the AFP.

“Our anniversary celebration will be modest, but special nonetheless since this is an opportunity to showcase developments in our reform and modernization programs in the AFP,” said military spokesman Col. Restituto Padilla.
