MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday asked his supporters not to believe the “baseless” accusations against him amid new graft and plunder raps lodged against him and his son, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.

(Those are just rehashed allegations. I have proven that those charges are bereft of truth. I am asking the public not to believe mere allegations.)

The recent graft and plunder charges over the allegedly overpriced Makati Science High School building was filed by lawyer Renato Bondal in the Office of the Ombudsman on Tuesday.

Binay said that although Bondal has accused him of the same charges every year since he was Makati mayor, he has never been suspended.

(First, this attack on my personality and my family has been in full swing since I was the mayor. Every year, my political foes, like Bondal, always file charges against me. My fellow countrymen, amid all the allegations hurled against me, I have never been suspended.)

Binay emphasized that through his “experience and competence,” he could provide a better life for Filipinos if he wins the 2016 presidential elections.
