Wife of man with kidney ailment appeals for help

MANILA, Philippines–Life has not been easy for Maurillo Cayabyab. Since his retirement, he has been diagnosed with many ailments, practically leaving him and his wife broke.

In 1999, the 64-year-old native of Pangasinan province underwent a heart bypass which caused him to retire from his work as an office assistant in a car financing company.

Six years later, Cayabyab suffered a stroke while in 2009, he was diagnosed to be suffering from kidney failure. He has since been undergoing hemodialysis at Nazareth General Hospital in Dagupan City, according to his 65-year-old wife, Frigie.

“We’ve used up whatever benefits he got from his former job. I even stopped working as a medical technology teacher to attend to his needs. Sometimes we ask ourselves, ‘Who is going to support us?’ or ‘Where will we get the money for dialysis?’” she told the Inquirer.

The couple have two children, one of them still in high school. Their older child is married with four kids to look after.

“I am counting on your readers to help us because we are already old. We need P248,000 a year for my husband’s dialysis,” she said.
