4 killed as truck hits van on Cavitex
Four people were killed after a trailer truck slammed into a delivery van early Friday morning along the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) in Parañaque City.
Trailer truck driver Gerry Mainit and delivery van driver Rodolfo Cahilig were declared dead on arrival at Saint Dominic Hospital after suffering head injuries in the crash that happened near the Cavitex-Marina Road intersection around 5 a.m.
Mainit’s helper Jonathan Gabrinao and another male who remained unidentified at press time succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the same hospital, according to a report from the Parañaque Traffic Bureau.
PO1 Allan Laveres of the Parañaque police said the delivery van passing through Marina was crossing the intersection when it was hit by the Cavite City-bound truck. An initial investigation showed that Mainit was trying to beat the red light, he noted.
The impact caused the trailer truck, owned by RMCE Metal Products, to hit the railings of the expressway, throwing Mainit off the vehicle by several meters.
The front the delivery van was crushed, instantly killing Cahilig.
