MANILA, Philippines–In its bid to make the newly rehabilitated Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) 3 more accessible to passengers with no cars, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced its plan to set up covered walkways and pedestrian lanes around the terminal.
MIAA officials said the project estimated to cost P4.9 million would be beneficial to travelers at the Naia 3 who take public transportation.
“The project will connect the Terminal 3 to jeepney and bus stops at the rotunda,” MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said in an interview.

Budget
The project including its budget allotment has been approved by the MIAA board of directors and forwarded to the bids and awards committee, he said.
“We should be starting the bidding by the end of the year,” he said.
Octavio Lina, Naia Terminal 3 manager, said under the project, which is expected to be completed in three months, a 283-meter covered pedestrian lane will be constructed along with a 434-meter brick walkway.

This project, he said, is aimed at giving ease and comfort to arriving and departing passengers of the Naia 3 who choose to take the jeepneys and buses before or after taking their flights.
“This is to shield fliers from the rain and heat,” he said.
Honrado likewise disclosed a private initiative to construct a walkway that will connect Naia Terminal 3 to Resorts World Manila, a casino resort located across the terminal.
“There was a MIAA resolution approving the proposal from Resorts World Manila,” he said, noting, however, that this particular project could be realized only after the Naia Expressway is completed.
The Naia Expressway project, a four-lane elevated highway that will connect Naia Terminal 1, 2 and 3 to the Skyway and the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway is now on its second phase.
