MANILA, Philippines—A gay man who had just come from a wake was killed by his live-in partner inside their house in Marikina City after he refused to give the suspect some money.

Ronaldo Arceo, a 52-year-old caterer, died due to a lone stab wound in the chest while his partner of more than a year, identified only as Jay-R, escaped.

Authorities said that Arceo’s younger brother, Ruben, heard the victim scream for help around 10:50 p.m. inside his house in Barangay J. dela Peña, Marikina City.

Ruben, who lives beside his brother, told the police that when he looked out the door, he saw the 25-year-old suspect hurriedly leaving the victim’s house, dressed in just a pair of shorts.

According to SPO1 Aladin Alingas, Arceo asked for help from his brother who took him to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center where the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

Alingas said that Ruben told investigators the two usually fought over money matters although he did not hear them arguing that night. This led the police to theorize that the suspect may have waited for the victim to go to sleep before stabbing him with a bread knife. Nothing was missing inside the house, including Arceo’s wallet which was full of money.
