Aquino nets ‘very good’ rating of +56

President Benigno Aquino III’s net satisfaction rating rose in the past quarter to a “very good” +56, gaining 10 points  from the preceding quarter’s “good” net rating of +46, a recent survey by Social Weather Stations found.

In its Third Quarter Social Weather Survey conducted between September 4 and 7, SWS asked 1,200 respondents nationwide “how satisfied or dissatisfied” they were with “the performance” of the President.

SWS further asked, “Are you very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, undecided if satisfied or dissatisfied, somewhat dissatisfied, very dissatisfied?”

Results of the survey, first published in BusinessWorld on Monday, showed that 70 percent of the respondents said they were satisfied with Mr. Aquino’s performance, up from 64 percent in June. Those who said they were dissatisfied accounted for 14 percent, down from 18 percent.

The figures translated to a net satisfaction rating (the difference between the percentage of satisfied responses and the percentage of dissatisfied responses) of +56, up from +46 in June (64 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied).

SWS classifies net satisfaction scores with the following terminologies: +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; -70 and under, “execrable.”

Geographically, Mr. Aquino posted his biggest gain in Luzon outside Manila, where he got a “very good” net satisfaction rating of +63 (74 percent satisfied, 10 percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded) from the previous quarter’s “good” net satisfaction rating of +41 (60 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied).

Mr. Aquino also maintained “very good scores” by posting a gain of one percentage point in both the Visayas and Mindanao, resulting in a score of +52 (70 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) and +55 (68 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded), respectively.

The President also maintained his “good” rating in Metro Manila even as this slipped by two percentage points to +41 (61 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied).

Mr. Aquino also posted improved ratings in the rural areas at +64 (75 percent satisfied, 11 percent dissatisfied) from +47 (65 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) in June, and in the urban areas at +50 (66 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied) from the previous +45 (63 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied).

The President also obtained “very good” scores across all socioeconomic classes, especially among the “masa” or class D, where his net rating rose by 14 points to +58 (72 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) from +44 (63 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied) in the previous quarter.

Mr. Aquino’s net rating also rose by four percentage points among people clustered at class E at +52 (66 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded), while it slipped by five percentage points among classes ABC at a still “very good” +53 (69 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied).
