PNP spokesperson: Give Purisima a chance

MANILA, Philippines–“Let’s give him a chance to answer all these at the right time,” Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said of Director General Alan Purisima following the filing of new raps against him days after his suspension.
“As citizens of the republic, we are entitled to our opinions. We have the right to file charges before government agencies. If the accusers have rights, the accused have the right as well to respond to the complaints,” Mayor said on Tuesday.
The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed several charges in the Office of the Ombudsman against Purisima in connection with his alleged 9.5-hectare property in Talisay, Batangas province.
The Ombudsman earlier ordered the six-month preventive suspension of Purisima over the allegedly anomalous courier contract to deliver firearms license cards.
The VACC and Montano Malabanan, who claimed ownership of the Batangas property, accused Purisima of faking the deed of sale of the land.
They filed complaints of violation of antigraft and corrupt practices acts, estafa through falsification of public documents, and administrative offenses of dishonesty and grave misconduct against Purisima.
