Over 1,000 families from Baseco evacuated – Manila exec

MANILA, Philippines – Over 1, 000 families from the Baseco compound in Tondo, Manila have been evacuated in anticipation of Tropical Storm “Ruby.”

Johnny Yu, director ng Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office, said a total of 1,227 or 5,340 individuals were brought to temporary evacuation centers.

Out of the 1,227 families, 394 families are at the Baseco Evacuation Center; 407 families at the Corazon Aquino Elementary School; 362 families are at Benigno Aquino Elementary School while 64 families have settled at a covered court.

The families have color-coded disaster card for easy distribution of relief supplies.

Meanwhile, 80 families or 320 individuals are at the Del Pan Evacuation Center.

Yu said evacuation is still ongoing in Parola Compound and Isla Puting Bato and authorities are expecting that the number of evacuees will increase within the day.
