LEGAZPI CITY, Albay—Disaster response workers in Camarines Norte were looking for a fisherman who went after his fishing boat as it was swept away by crashing waves early Monday and vanished from sight on the beach, police said.

Captain Mardjorie Panesa, public information officer of Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said they received a report at 9 a.m. that Edgar del Mundo, 48, of the coastal village of San Lorenzo, Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte, had failed to return home.

Police Officer 2 Roland Pasion, radio operator and desk officer at Sta. Elena Municipal Police Office, said a concerned citizen reported the incident through a text message.

He said policemen were deployed to search for the fisherman.

Pasion said Del Mundo had yet to be declared officially missing because police would have to wait for 24 hours to elapse before declaring a person missing.
