MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has appointed lawyer Gilberto Repizo an associate commissioner at the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Repizo filled the post vacated by Siegfred Mison who was named immigration commissioner in December last year.

Asked his immediate plans for the BI, Repizo said he would discuss policies he had in mind with the Board of Commissioners.

“I am guided by what Secretary of Justice Leila de Lima told me when I took my oath. She said, ‘You have barely two years in office, do the right thing.’ I think if I follow that directive, I’ll never get lost. Along the way, I can contribute my inputs to the good programs of the commissioner,” Repizo said in a statement.

Repizo said he was happy to be back at the BI where he served as a technical assistant to then Associate Commissioner Jose Lopez from 1996 to 1998.

“We welcome Associate Commissioner Repizo to our BI family. The Board of Commissioners and the rest of our personnel look forward to working with him in the coming days,” said Mison in a statement.
